It's a Popular Ancient Town

Situated in the hill country of Sri Lanka, the town of Kandy and its outskirts hold much historical value. Some of the notable locations to visit include the sacred Temple of the Tooth, the Kandy Lake, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, Bahirawakanda Buddha statue, and several ancient temples such as Embekke, Lankathilaka and Gadaladeniya. Nature lovers will also love the Udawattakele forest reserve, located behind the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

The small, yet ancient town is also popular for the annual Esala Perahera, a Buddhist cultural pageant that parades through the streets for 10 days.

Approximately 100 km from the capital city of Colombo, Kandy, located in the centre of the island, is a good stopover for travellers on their cross-country adventures.

The Weather

The much sought-after cool weather in Kandy is something that attracts many, from near and far. Even though daytime can become warm, the evenings always tend to cool off, with calming breezes. While the heat may be slightly more in the months of March, April and May, the climate is always generally cooler than the majority of the other areas of the island. Escape to the hills for a change of scenery, and a break from the every day heat.
